Results from MAGIC ’ s first observation cycle on galactic sources
نویسنده
چکیده
During its Cycle I, the MAGIC telescope targeted about 250 hours several galactic sources sought to be, or detected previously by other experiments in the same energy domain, γ-ray emitters. This paper reviews some results of such MAGIC observations covering, among others, supernova remnants, the Galactic Center and microquasars. We will concentrate on the recent discovery at very high energy γ-rays of the microquasar LS I +61 303.

Observation of Galactic Sources of Very High Energy Γ-rays with the Magic Telescope
During its first cycle of observations, the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov) telescope has observed very high energy γ-rays from fife galactic objects: the Crab Nebula, the SNRs HESS J1813-178 and HESS J1834-087, the Galactic Center and the γ-ray binary LS I +61 303. After a short introduction to the MAGIC telescope and the data analysis procedure, the results of these fife...

During its first cycle, the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov) telescope was performing an observational campaign covering a total of about 250 hours on galactic sources. Here we review the results for the very high energy (> 100 GeV) γ-ray emission from some of those sources.
متن کاملMAGIC multiwavelength observations: policy, and some recent results
MAGIC, 17 meters of diameter, is the world’s largest single dish Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope, and reaches in the analysis the lowest energy threshold (60 GeV) among the VHE gamma detectors. Completed in September 2004, MAGIC started full operation with its first cycle of data taking in February 2005. MAGIC observations in the galaxy cover, among others, supernova remnants, the Galac...
متن کاملAGN Observations with the MAGIC Telescope
MAGIC is presently the imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope with the largest reflecting surface and the lowest energy threshold. MAGIC concluded its first year of regular observation in April 2006. During this period and the preceding commissioning phase, 25 Active Galactic Nuclei have been observed and VHE γ-ray emission has been confirmed by 4 of them. Two more AGNs have been detected as γ...
متن کاملDetermination of the Night Sky Background around the Crab pulsar using its optical pulsation
The poor angular resolution of imaging γ-ray telescopes is offset by the large reflector areas of next generation telescopes such as MAGIC (17 m diameter), which makes the study of optical emission associated with some γ-ray sources feasible. Furthermore, the extremely fast time response of photomultipliers (PMs) makes them ideal detectors for fast (subsecond) optical transients and periodic so...
